UMP authors at AMIQAAQ 2015: A Symposium on Indigenous Masculinities

The University of Alberta’s Faculty of Native Studies presents: AMIQAAQ 2015 A Symposium on Indigenous Masculinities

*December 3-5th, 2015
Edmonton, Alberta*

This gathering is the fourth Amiqaaq event hosted by the University of Alberta. Since its inception, this Inuktitut word for sharing has been used as the event theme and name. Held over three days, this year’s event will be a symposium focussing on Indigenous masculinities. We will be bringing together over 25 speakers and performers interested in exploring this theme through their scholarly and community work, performance art, films, the spoken word, and graphic novels.

With this intention of sharing, the symposium will explore the multiplicity and manifestation of Indigenous masculinities, through themes of embodiment, self-determination, transgression, tradition, patriarchy, knowledge sharing and community engagement.

This is a free event, open to all staff, students and faculty of the University of Alberta as well as members of the Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.
