The seventh year of On the Same Page, Manitoba’s biggest book club, features the Governor General’s award-winning book of poetry North End Love Songs by Katherena Vermette.

About the Artists

Katherena Vermette is a Métis writer of poetry, fiction and children’s literature. North End Love Songs (The Muses’ Company), her first book, won the 2013 Governor General Literary Award for Poetry. Her poetry and fiction have appeared in several literary magazines and anthologies, including Manitowapow: Aboriginal Writings from the Land of Water. She holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of British Columbia, and lives in Winnipeg.

Born in Austria to Ukrainian parents, John Paskievich emigrated to Canada at the age of five. He studied at the University of Winnipeg and Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in Toronto. His photographs have been exhibited at prestigious galleries and museums across Canada, and his films have been broadcast in Canada, on PBS, and on European networks. His photographs have been published in magazines such as Maclean’s and in the award-winning The North End (University of Manitoba Press, 2007). His most recent film is Special Ed, a documentary about North End animator and entrepreneur Ed Ackerman. Paskievich lives in Winnipeg.

On The Same Page, a project of The Winnipeg Foundation and Winnipeg Public Library, encourages all Manitobans to read, and talk about, the same book at the same time. The program includes book giveaways, author appearances and special events inspired by the feature book.
